We didn’t set out to start a travel company. We fell in love — with each other, and with an island.

Why we do this

We kept meeting people who’d “done Hokkaido” — from a coach window, off a fixed itinerary, never quite touching the island we love. We knew a different one: the back roads, the counter with no menu, the onsen where snow falls past the window. We started Travel Hokkaido to give families that Hokkaido — the real one — with everything handled, so all you carry is your sense of wonder.

Not a booking desk. A local team that hosts the whole thing.

Ochan came up through hospitality and transport, building a small family of Hokkaido businesses from that first guesthouse. Peta spent her career caring for and drawing out the best in children and young people. Put those two together and you have how we work: trips run in-house by people who actually live here — our own vehicles, our own guides, our own drivers — looked after with a real duty of care, never passed down a chain of subcontractors. We know family travel, because we live it.

Four children later, we’ve had plenty of practice juggling generations, attention spans, and everyone’s idea of a good day. We build that same care into your trip — so grandparents and six-year-olds alike come home happy, and you get to be a guest on your own holiday instead of the tour guide.
